“All your fairytale dreams will come true tonight,” says An Tran, Wolfson May Ball President, and the College is certainly transforming into something of a wonderland.
Preparations have been underway for months, but the past week has seen a flurry of activity to make the final preparations and decorations.
This year, the student-run May Ball committee has arranged six separate stages, with live bands, solo artists and DJ’s throughout the night. VIP guests will enjoy a special drinks reception in the President’s Garden. And there are incredible themed decorations, with every area of the College dressed up to represent a different fairytale. Guests will enjoy scenes evoking Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella’s Ball, The Beast’s Castle, Neverland, Wonderland, Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and a Witches Candy House.
A wide range of food will be available throughout the night, including Cambridge favourites Africfood, Aromi, Guerilla Kitchen, Jack’s Gelato, with plenty of halal, gluten-free and vegan options. Party-goers will also enjoy many drink options, from cocktails and multicoloured shots to hot chocolate and bubble tea.
This year the College is also using reusable cups, so revellers are reminded to return their vessels to the bar areas rather than throwing them away over the course of the night.
An astonishing amount of effort goes into organising these events every year, and we hope that everyone truly has a night to remember!
