Tony Minson graduated in microbiology from the University of Birmingham and was a post graduate at the Australian National University. He joined Cambridge University as a Research Associate in 1976 and was appointed Professor of Virology in 1991. He was Chairman of the School of Biological Sciences from 2001-2003 and Pro Vice Chancellor for Planning and Resources from 2003-2009. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, Chairman of the Cambridge University Press Syndicate and a trustee of the Animal Health Trust.
He enjoys sailing and gardening and is married to Jenny, who studies the role of the immune system in diabetes.
