Professor Peter Weissberg

Peter is an academic cardiologist whose lifelong career interest has been in cardiovascular research. Since retiring from full time employment he has pursued a portfolio career engaged in various aspects of medical and bioscience research.

Peter graduated in Medicine from the University of Birmingham and pursued a career in academic cardiovascular medicine including a period as a Medical Research Council Trvelling Fellow to the Baker Institute in Melbourne Australia. He came to Cambridge as a British Heart Foundation Senior Research Fellow in 1988 and subsequently became the first BHF Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine in Cambridge in 1994. In 2004 he became Medical Director of the British Heart Foundation, Europe’s largest independent funder of cardiovascular research.

His current interest lies in translational medicine and the interface between academic research and commercial new therapeutic developments. Since retiring from the BHF in 2016 he has undertaken a number of leadership roles in various aspects of both academic and commercial biomedical science.
