Man and woman talking at Formal Hall

Sharing meals together is an important part of collegiate life. It provides the opportunity to catch up with friends and meet College members in other fields of study. Head Chef Sam Frost and his team provide delicious food and we encourage all College members to join us for breakfast, lunch, dinner – and, of course, Formal Hall.

Allergen Information

Please ask about the allergen information of any item of food not on the menu or price list. The absence of information does not mean the item of food does not contain allergens.

Electronic communication is prohibited at all times in the Dining Hall

This includes:

  • Use of a mobile device for talking, texting, tweeting, emailing, etc.
  • Listening to music, even with headphones.

Use of a tablet or laptop, for reading only, is permitted at Breakfast.

One of the things that makes Cambridge special is that Colleges bring together people from a very wide range of academic backgrounds and cultures.

At most universities, you largely meet only people who were in the same school or department. Wolfson is extra-special because it doesn't have a High Table which separates Fellows from students; here we all eat together. The dining table thus provides a lively social space in which people meet and interact as equals. In very few places will you find the opportunity easily to converse with such a range of colleagues and contemporaries.

Conversation is therefore a central part of our collegiate ethos. The reason we ask you to refrain from using electronic devices at all meals except breakfast is because we want to preserve this tradition that is precious to our collegiate life.

Please respect this principle. Talk, don’t text.

Use of a camera is prohibited at formal dinners.
