Overview

The Mary Bevan Recital began in 2011 when former Honorary Fellow, the late Professor Hugh Bevan, funded an annual concert in memory of his late wife, Mary Bevan. Mary was a great music lover, and also a Senior Member at Wolfson. Every year, winners of the prestigious Cambridge University Concerto Competition perform at the concert, one of the biggest musical events in the College calendar.

Join us following our garden party to hear competition prize winners, clarinettist Lola Frisby Williams and violinist Imaan Kashim.

Performers

Lola Frisby Williams is in her first year at Gonville and Caius College, reading Music. She attended the Junior Royal Academy of Music before going to Wells Cathedral School as a Specialist Musician for sixth form, studying with Marie Lloyd, Anna Hashimoto, and Richard Russell. She was also a member of the National Youth Orchestra. Lola was a joint winner of the Cambridge University Concerto Competition earlier this year, playing the Mozart Clarinet Concerto.

Imaan Kashim studies violin with Maureen Smith and is reading music at St John’s College. A Cambridge Instrumental Award Scholarship holder, her solo experience ranges from performing the Bach Double Violin Concerto with the Chineke! Junior Orchestra at Kensington Palace, to appearing alongside the National Youth Harp Orchestra of Great Britain at the Menuhin Hall. As winner of the Cambridge University Concerto Competition she is due to perform a concerto with its flagship orchestra in 2025. Internationally, she partook in the 2019 Andrea Postacchini competition in Italy and was invited to perform at the Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie, by the American Festival of Fine Arts.  As an avid orchestral player, Imaan has led the Verbier International Orchestra, the Royal College of Music Junior Department’s flagship Chamber Orchestra, Surrey County Youth Orchestra, and National Children’s Orchestra. She regularly performs with the Chineke! Orchestra, playing at the BBC Proms, recording CD’s and film soundtracks. She was selected as a representative of the RCM’s Junior Department to perform to HRH King Charles III.
