Update from the Development Director

Development Director Sian Cook
13/10/2020

In the past six months, almost 250 of you have donated, raising over £300,000 for the College. Wonderful messages of goodwill and support  accompanied many of your gifts.  We wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to you all!

Development Director Sian Cook

Thanks to your generosity we have redeveloped the Porters’ Lodge, providing a larger, COVID-secure space for the Porters to work in and a worthy Wolfson welcome to our students, members, alumni and visitors arriving at the main building.  Wolfson branded face masks have been purchased for every student (courtesy of the Emeritus Fellows) and there are hand sanitiser stations throughout College. We have hired marquees, more than doubling the size of the ground floor spaces, which allows us to provide a hygienic level of space for those on the College site.

In addition to supporting the physical adaptations of the College, £25,000 will provide new student bursaries helping those in financial need.  Your donations of all sizes have had a considerable and immediate impact on College life, so thank you. We have been able to support so many students due to your efforts, such as Keane who is doing an MPhil;

"Without the generous financial support offered by Wolfson College, I would not have been able to study at Cambridge University. Despite the administrative difficulties caused by COVID-19, Wolfson were more than willing to assist me by offering advice and, after assessing my application, awarding me funding. To Wolfson College itself, the College’s alumni and various other benefactors, I am exceptionally grateful for affording me the opportunity to study the subject I am passionate about at a university I love"

You can read more about the Plodge and the difference this will make to the day-to-day life of College in the interview with our Head Porter, Mike Wignall.

There will be more stories to come, including in the Wolfson Review, which will be out in time for Christmas.  If you have changed your address, please let us know to ensure you receive a copy.
