Claudia Marx is an architect specialising in conservation and working within sensitive historic contexts. Claudia's research interests include the history and theory of conservation and 19th- and early 20th-century architectural history.

Professor Dr Claudia Marx

Claudia Marx is an academic and architect specialising in conservation and working within sensitive historic contexts. She obtained a PhD degree from the University of Cambridge in 2010. Her doctoral research focused on the restoration of medieval cathedrals in England during the 19th century. As a project architect, she was responsible for running and leading architectural projects on a wide range of Grade I listed buildings in England and has worked on several English cathedrals. From 2015 she also taught architectural history at the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge. Since 2019 she has been Professor of Architectural Conservation and Design at TU Dresden. Her research interests include the history and theory of conservation and 19th- and early 20th-century architectural history. Claudia Marx is a chartered member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). She serves on the Fabric Advisory Committees for Ely and Peterborough Cathedrals.
