Wolfson Accessibility Guide

Wolfson College welcomes students, staff, academics, and visitors of all abilities, and we are committed to signposting and supporting those living with disabilities or other challenges during their time with us.

General information

Location

Wolfson College is located in a peaceful part of Cambridge a few minutes west of the city centre. It is near the Sidgwick Site (0.4 miles), with faculties such as Law, Economics, English, History, Classics and Modern Languages. The access guide for the Sidgwick Site can be found here.

There are excellent transport links and plenty of options for travelling to the College using sustainable means.

Wolfson is close both to the multiple parks and play areas within the city, and to the more rural Grantchester Meadows, with its pubs, tea garden, and riverside picnic locations.

Traffic access and parking

The University does not allow students to have cars in Cambridge. Parking is not available in University Departments or Colleges (including Wolfson College) unless they meet the required criteria. In line with University policy, car parking permits will only be issued by the Deputy Senior Tutor to those who meet at least one of the following criteria: 

  1. A valid blue badge holder
  2. Working in one of the more distant parts of the University e.g. West Suffolk Hospital, Babraham Institute
  3. A clinical veterinary or medical student who has to work shifts at the veterinary school or Addenbrooke's Hospital

To apply for a parking permit, please complete the Student Car Parking Application Form and return it to the Tutorial Office in Bredon House.

Arriving by train

Cambridge railway station is approximately 1.7km/35 minutes' walk from Wolfson, and has direct links to London King's Cross/St. Pancras, London Liverpool Street, Stansted and Gatwick airports, Norwich, Brighton, Ipswich, and King's Lynn. There is a taxi rank directly outside the station concourse, and nearby bus stops serve routes throughout Cambridge.

Arriving by bus

The Universal bus service links Eddington with West Cambridge, the city centre (Queens' College/Silver Street), the railway station, and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (including Addenbrooke's), running every 15 minutes Monday to Friday and every 20 to 30 minutes on weekends. There is a bus stop five minutes' walk from College on Grange Road, via the back gate and into Selwyn Gardens. The bus fare is just £1 with a University ID card.

The Whippet 18 service runs a limited service from Drummer Street bus station and stops at 'Grantchester Road, Newnham', opposite the front entrance of the College.

Arriving by bike

Designated visitor bicycle racks are located on the left-hand side of the main entrance driveway from Barton Road.
