Raymond Bujdoso graduated in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry and Physiology) at Leicester University and completed a PhD at Cambridge University (Wolfson College) in the Department of Pathology. He was a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Edinburgh during which time he was Secretary of the Metchnikoff Society. He was appointed lecturer at Cambridge University in 1994 and runs an active internationally recognised research group investigating the molecular pathology of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, alternatively known as prion diseases. He was Director of Pre-Clinical Studies at Wolfson College in 1999-2000. He was a member of an EU network for small ruminant TSE diseases from 2002-2006. He is the Cambridge Enterprise Champion for the Department of Veterinary Medicine. He is Director of the Wellcome Trust-funded Fundamentals of Veterinary Science Summer School.
He takes an interest in local politics and was secretary of the Community Council in Haddington, East Lothian, and subsequently in Clovenfords, Selkirkshire. He has a competitive attitude to sport and represented Wolfson College at football, rowing and squash. He enjoys international travel to watch Formula1 motor racing.
