Dr Norma Emerton

Emeritus Fellow

  • Former Senior Tutor (1994-1999), Wolfson College

Norma Emerton has been a Fellow of Wolfson since 1994. However, her association with the College dates from her time as a PhD student in the 1970s. A graduate in science from Oxford, Norma came to Cambridge in 1968 as the wife of the Reverend John A Emerton, (St John’s College), Regius Professor of Hebrew. She returned to academic life after raising their three children.

Dr Emerton taught for the Department of History & Philosophy of Science for many years and was Senior Tutor of Wolfson from 1994 until 1999. She has been Secretary, and then President, of the Emeritus Fellows Society.

Her current research centres on the relationship between late pagan and early Christian science, philosophy and theology in late antiquity (i.e. the first five centuries AD).
