Martin Allen curates medieval and modern coins and medals at the Fitzwilliam Museum (www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/dept/coins/staff/mra25.html), and he is actively engaged in teaching and research on various aspects of monetary history. In recognition of his published research in this field he was awarded the triennial Sanford Saltus Gold Medal of the British Numismatic Society in 2011 and the degree of Doctor of Letters in 2013. His recent publications include Mints and Money in Medieval England (CUP, 2012).
Martin Allen’s teaching as an Affiliated Lecturer in the History Faculty includes a Themes and Sources course on Money and Society from Late Antiquity to the Financial Revolution and classes for undergraduates and MPhil students. He also teaches for the Division of Archaeology, and he is currently supervising a PhD student at SciencesPo in Paris.
Martin Allen administers the Corpus of Early Medieval Coin Finds (EMC), which has established an international reputation as a major research resource for medieval historians and archaeologists, and he is the Senior Editor of the British Numismatic Journal.
