Dr Jurgen Becque is a structural engineer and an Associate Professor in the Cambridge University Engineering Department. His research interests lie in the areas of structural stability, structural optimization and thin-walled structures.
Dr Becque joined the University of Cambridge in 2019, after holding academic positions at the University of Sydney and the University of Sheffield. He has a wide range of interests within structural engineering, which include mathematically intensive theoretical models to describe structural instabilities, as well as experimental investigations of structural systems, computational techniques, and the development of design guidelines for practitioners. Regarding the latter, he made significant contributions to the European design rules for steel structures.
Dr Becque’s teaching experience mostly includes structural analysis and design courses. His teaching is informed by four years of industry experience, during which he specialized in the design of steel bridges, steel-framed buildings, and water treatment plants.
