John Flowerdew became a Fellow of Wolfson in 1996, having previously been a Senior Member of the College since 1989. He was Admissions Tutor at Wolfson from 2000 until 2009.

Following undergraduate education in Wales and a DPhil at Oxford, John came to Cambridge as University Demonstrator in the then Department of Applied Biology. Later, as University Lecturer in Zoology, he was also Academic Librarian of the Zoology Department’s Balfour and Newton Library.

John’s academic interests are in population ecology and the conservation of small mammals, in the history of British mammals, and in marine biology. In 1986 he was awarded the Mammal Society Silver Medal.

Outside the laboratory John plays badminton and tennis, follows international and varsity rugby, and has an interest in local history and Romanesque churches.
