Dr Jane McLarty BA MA MPhil

  • Affiliated Lecturer, CU Faculty of Divinity

Jane has been Senior Tutor since 2009. As Senior Tutor she has overall responsibility for the general supervision of the education, health and welfare of the students, and works with the Tutorial team to monitor the admission of students and their academic progress, and to provide information about pastoral and financial matters.

After reading Classics at Girton (1982-1985) Jane worked in the City for five years as a Business Systems Analyst, first with Coopers & Lybrand, then the Stock Exchange and finally at UBS Phillips & Drew. She returned to Cambridge to take the MPhil in New Testament (1990-1992), and then spent seven years as the University’s Disability Adviser, alongside teaching New Testament Greek and supervising. She moved to Lucy Cavendish College in 1999, first as Assistant Graduate Tutor and then as Admissions Tutor. She completed a PhD through part-time study with King’s College London, finally submitting it just before moving to Wolfson. Her research interests are in the interaction of early Christianity with classical culture, and she remains a passionate teacher of Greek.

Within the University she serves as Associate Secretary to the Senior Tutors' Committee, with the remit of welfare and graduate students. She is a Trustee for the Charlie Bayne Travel Trust and the Snowdon Trust, both aimed at benefiting disabled students.
