George is a materials scientist, with research interest in emerging printable electronic inks towards the development of efficient, low carbon footprint and ultra-low-cost solar photovoltaics. He is passionate about mitigating the impact of climate change on our planet.

George Kakavelakis

George obtained his PhD degree as an IKY/Siemens Scholar of Excellence from the Department of Materials Science and Technology of the University of Crete, Greece in July 2018, working towards the improvement of performance and stability of printable solar photovoltaics through novel interfacial engineering designs. Upon finishing his PhD, he took a postdoctoral research associate appointment (September 2018) at the Cambridge Graphene Centre of Cambridge University to develop fully printed solar photovoltaics using low-cost functional electronic inks. In April 2020 he was elected as a Junior Research Fellow at Wolfson College of Cambridge University.

George’s research interests focus on the development of new functional materials with application in solar photovoltaics, aiming to increase their competitiveness against fossil fuels towards a sustainable green energy future. He has particular interest on the formulation of emerging printable electronic inks including liquid phase exfoliated graphene and other layered materials, metal halide perovskites, metal oxides and organic semiconductors and the fabrication of their innovative assemblies and designs towards efficient, stable, scalable, low cost and low carbon footprint solar photovoltaics.
