Wolfson College is delighted to congratulate Governing Body Fellow and Tutor Dr Nigel Kettley, Community & Leadership Impact Coordinator Simona Obeng, and Academic Skills Librarian Connor Johnston, who have all been shortlisted in this year’s Student Union Cambridge Excellence Awards.

The annual SU Cambridge Excellence Awards celebrate students, staff, and student-led initiatives from across the University, recognising those who have made an exceptional contribution to the Cambridge experience. The awards highlight excellence in teaching, student support, community building, leadership, and inclusive practice.

Dr Nigel Kettley has been shortlisted in the Lecturer of the Year category. A member of the Faculty of Education, Nigel teaches on a range of courses for the Institute of Continuing Education, supervises MPhil and PhD students in the Faculty of Education, and is currently establishing a new MSt in Advanced Subject Teaching.

“I was delighted to be nominated for Lecturer of the Year, and it is a great privilege to work with students across the collegiate University. Teaching is a collective activity, and this is a testament to the hard work of my students and colleagues.”

Simona Obeng has been shortlisted in the Student Support by a Member of Non-Academic Staff category. As Wolfson’s Community & Leadership Impact Coordinator (CLIC), Simona develops and leads volunteer programmes for our mature undergraduate and postgraduate students, encouraging meaningful engagement both within College and in the wider Cambridge community.

“I’m very grateful to have been nominated by students for this award. Seeing students engage with community initiatives, support one another, and make a positive impact on the College and the wider community is what makes this work so meaningful.”

Connor Johnston, Wolfson’s Academic Skills Librarian, has been shortlisted in the Inclusive Practice category. In his role, Connor supports students in developing essential academic, research, and information skills, while helping to ensure that the library remains an accessible and welcoming environment for all.

“Libraries are made to facilitate access, so they only fulfil their purpose when every student feels welcome and supported. As a librarian, I want to go out of my way to make sure that’s the case.”

Congratulations also go to former Wolfson Junior Research Fellow Dr Farhana Afrin Rahman, who has been shortlisted in the Student Support by a Member of Academic Staff category. Farhana is currently an Affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS).

Wolfson is proud to see members of its community recognised for their outstanding contributions to teaching, student support, and inclusive practice across the University. We wish all those shortlisted the very best of luck in the awards.
