Wolfson College is proud to highlight Carol Yuen, our Ambassador for Hong Kong, whose international experience, generosity, and commitment to the College make her an inspiring example of the impact Wolfson ambassadors can have around the world.

Carol

Carol brings more than 25 years of experience in international banking, entrepreneurship, and investment to her ambassadorial role. Her career has included senior positions at leading global institutions including Goldman Sachs, Standard Chartered, Citigroup, and HSBC. In 2017, she founded Alpha Grand Group in Hong Kong, expanding her work into real estate investment and bespoke life insurance solutions for ultra-high-net-worth clients. Across her career, she has completed more than USD 35 billion in transactions spanning commercial banking, treasury products, private banking, and investment banking.

Her academic background is equally impressive. Carol holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, a Master of Laws in Corporate and Financial Law from the University of Hong Kong, and an MSt in Global History from the University of Cambridge. She has also served on McGill University’s Regional Advancement Board.

Yet what makes Carol such a valued ambassador is not only her professional expertise, but her determination to give back. She matriculated at Wolfson in 2020 and studied during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, completing her Cambridge MSt entirely online. Despite the challenges of that period, she experienced first-hand the support and sense of community that Wolfson offered.

Reflecting on her time at the College, Carol said:

“I had two wonderful and extraordinary years with Wolfson. Despite the difficulty in attending my programme in person, Wolfson had extended their best effort in assisting me in completing the programme, such as writing seminars organised by the Wolfson library team. I was grateful to Wolfson’s care and support.”

That experience inspired her to stay involved and support the College:

“In return, I want to contribute my twenty years of financial knowledge and network in Asia to Wolfson.”

As Ambassador for Hong Kong, Carol is helping to strengthen connections between Wolfson and its alumni community in the region. She is committed to encouraging alumni to remain engaged with the College and share their expertise and networks.

For Carol, one of the most rewarding aspects of the role is seeing those connections lead to something meaningful. She values the moments when a student finds a mentor, a research idea sparks interest in industry, or a Wolfson alumnus reconnects with the College after many years. These outcomes, she believes, demonstrate the true purpose of the Ambassador programme: to build a community that transcends borders.

Carol’s example demonstrates that being an ambassador involves far more than representing the College. Her dedication and wealth of professional experience make her an outstanding representative of Wolfson College. In her own words, giving back to Wolfson is not simply a gesture of gratitude, but an investment in a community she deeply believes in, one that continues to inspire her long after graduation.

In recognition of Carol’s contribution to Wolfson, she was made a Bye Fellow in 2023.

Could you help strengthen the Wolfson community too? Wherever you are based, becoming an ambassador is a meaningful way to stay connected to the College, support students and fellow alumni, and use your experience to make a difference. If you would be interested in representing Wolfson as an ambassador, please contact the alumni team. We would be delighted to hear from you and to support you in the role.
