Disruption in Computer Room and SDWR, Thursday 21 March AM

Work will be carried out on the blinds in the Computer Room and SDWR on the morning of 21 March. Both rooms will remain open whilst the work is done, but there will inevitably be some noise and disruption. Apologies for any inconvenience caused and thanks in advance for your patience.

New College Archivist & Records Manager

Holds and Recalls explained...

Is the book you want from the College Library out on loan? If so, you may wish to place a 'hold' or a 'recall' on it, in order to ensure that you get the chance to borrow it when it is returned. It's important to remember the difference between the two options, which can lead to very different results. They are explained in the 'Holds and recalls' section of the 'Catalogues and borrowing' page. If in doubt, please ask a member of Library staff!

Want to know more about ebooks?

The ebooks @ cambridge project are holding a drop-in session at which staff will be on hand to answer your questions about ebooks, and to demonstrate finding and using them, and downloading them onto mobile devices. It's on Tuesday 22 January, from 11am-12noon, in the North Reading Room of the University Library. The session is open to all Cambridge University students. Do consider going along to learn more about these important resources!

Renew or return your vacation loans!

All books borrowed for the Christmas vacation are due back by midnight TODAY (Monday 14 January). Please renew or return your loans without delay! You can renew online up to 3 times (via your library account, accessible from LibrarySearch or Newton), by email to library @, or in person by asking the Librarian or Library Assistant. All new loans and renewals will now be issued for the standard loan period (4 weeks; 1 week for economics books).

Ebooks downtime

This Sunday, 13 January, readers will be unable to access some ebooks due to essential upgrade and maintenance work being carried out by one of the ebook suppliers, Taylor & Francis, between 17.00 and 21.00.  Please note: it is only those ebooks supplied by Talyor & Francis that will be affected. All other ebooks available to Cambridge University readers will continue to be accessible throughout.

Christmas and New Year closures

The Library building (incl. Reading Room, Sir David Williams Room, Computer Room and basement facilities) will be closed over the Christmas and New Year period as follows: Christmas closure The Library will be closed from 7pm on Monday 24 December until 7am on Thursday 27 December. New Year closure The Library will be closed from 7pm on Monday 31 December until 7am on Wednesday 2 January.

A Victorian Christmas advent calendar

Cambridge University Library (the U.L.) is celebrating the run up to Christmas with an online advent calendar. Each day a new image on a Christmas theme will appear on the Special Collections blog. The images are taken from the library’s Victorian children’s book collection, which is just one of the many special collections held at the U.L.
