Sports Awards

Cost shouldn't be part of the competition in sports. Wolfson provides small awards to help those in financial need to pursue their talents.

Wolfson College Sports Awards

Wolfson College students may apply for Sports Awards once in each academic year. You can complete the application form here

Deadlines for applications can be found on the Financial Support page.

Criteria for Award

  1. Applicants should be student members of Wolfson College and training with or competing on a University team in a sport for which a Blue or Half-Blue is awarded.
  2. Funds are limited; priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received a Sports Award in the past.
  3. It is impossible for the selection committee to evaluate applicants’ financial circumstances accurately, so these are not taken into account in making awards, but we assume that only students who are in genuine need of financial assistance to pursue their sport will apply for these awards.
  4. Applications for sums of under £100 are ordinarily funded in full, but larger amount of up to £400 may be awarded for sports with particularly high annual subscription fees and/or, where justified, for other direct training costs (e.g. swimming fees, coaching). Note that applicants are expected to contribute to the cost of team kit; awards to cover the cost of team kit will be made only for mandatory competition attire/equipment and will not exceed £100/year for any individual student. Gym memberships, physiotherapy, food and housing will not normally be considered when making sports awards.

Hawks' Charitable Trust

The Hawks’ Charitable Trust provides awards to support students from all Colleges who are engaged in sport at the Varsity, national or international level. All students who are competing for the University in a sport with high training costs should apply for a Hawks’ award, the deadline for which is usually early in the Lent Term. Applications and information are available on the Hawks' Trust website.
