Graduands 10 Sept 2022

A brief spot of rain was not enough to dampen high spirits this Saturday as 102 Wolfson students received their degrees in person, some of whom were celebrating degrees previously awarded during the pandemic.

Degrees awarded ranged across the entire spectrum, including: BA, EdD, LLM, MASt, MB, MBA, MCL, MEd, MPhil, MSt and PHD. The cohort included students from 28 different countries, including the United States, Malta, Philippines, Latvia, India, Netherlands, Poland and Cyprus, as well as the UK and Ireland.

Ahead of the ceremony, Praelector Dr David Goode staged a rehearsal in the Betty Wu Lee garden to prepare the graduands for the various stages of proceedings at Senate House. The graduands then assembled in front of the College gates for the photograph of the cohort, during which the College flag flew at half-mast to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Students enjoyed a lunch in the College gardens with their guests, before parading through town to the Senate House for the Congregation.

Wolfson President Professor Jane Clarke, said: “Graduations are always special occasions, but this was very special as we welcomed back many students who were not able to celebrate at the end of their degrees because of the pandemic, yet who returned with their families today. We hope that our graduates will always think of Wolfson as a place they can come back to.

“This will only be the start of their glorious futures. Our world is in dire need of hard-working, determined and highly gifted individuals like these. Ring true Wolfson graduates, and return home to us soon.”
