He was one of seven honorands who joined more than 1000 students from all over the world who also received honours that day. He commented, "Specialists here are working in areas vital for human and environmental progress. I especially hope, with the help of Cranfield, to be able to raise the global and national soil crisis as an issue of public concern and debate."

Professor Sir Peter Gregson, Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor of Cranfield, said: "This celebration recognises the remarkable achievements of all those who graduate, and acknowledges those receiving honorary degrees for their outstanding contributions to society."

Roger Harrabin first came to Wolfson as a Press Fellow in the Easter Term of 1996. He continues to be involved with the Press Fellowship, giving one of the weekly Press Fellow Seminars, when he shares his current research.
