Green Society Kicks Off Virtual Easter Term

The Green Society kickstarted the virtual Easter term with a double-first: The first event in their new Green Society Talks series and Wolfson's first ever webinar, with Marie-Anne Coninsx, Wolfson Alumna and former Ambassador EU Ambassador at Large to the Arctic.

The various talk and seminar series at Wolfson are a cornerstone of our intellectual and social life. With the College closed, holding them in person is no longer an option. Neither was outright canceling them. Hence, we had to rethink our events delivery from scratch. And we have been working hard to come up with a way to continue our thriving events programme in a virtual fashion.

All Easter term events will take place as webinars using the zoom platform. This easy, free, and secure setup allows you to view our speakers and hosts, as well as their presentations from the comfort of your home. And you can even leave on your pyjamas, because—unlike in meetings—you will join as a viewer only.

The format proved to work very well during the first installation of the new Green Society Talks Series. Ms Marie Anne Coninsx, Wolfson alumna and former Ambassador at Large for the Arctic of the European Union shared her insights into the changes occurring in the Arctic and their global effects.

The new virtual format, however, doesn't mean that we miss out on the stimulating discussions after the presentation. The easy-to-use Q&A function allows you to submit questions for the speaker to address after the talk. In fact, the Q&A format worked so well, that we did not have time to address all the questions during the seminar. Luckily, however, all questions are documented and Marie-Anne could easily follow up via email. The recording is available on the Green Society pages (GoogleDoc).

We look forward to seeing you join one of our upcoming seminars. If you want to familiarise yourself with the zoom webinar format before registering for our next event or if you need step-by-step instructions on how to join, check out out Webinar Information document.

The webinar feature is available to all Wolfson societies and we hope to see many more virtual events taking place throughout the term. If you have an idea for an event, get in touch or submit a webinar request on behalf of your society.
