The Boat Club names newly donated double scull

The double scull was named Pan Xiuhua by alumnus Henry Rogers (1974, PG Dip, Overseas Development Studies) which is the Chinese name of his wife, Stella. The couple joined the president, Professor Jane Clarke, for lunch and a tour around Wolfson College grounds before heading to the Wolfson College Boat House where the naming celebration commenced. They were joined by members of his family and the Boat Club to celebrate his sporting achievements and invaluable contributions to College rowing. The double scull was officially named by Stella, and then Henry and the men’s boat club captain enjoyed taking it on its first ride on the River Cam.

Henry has remained a keen rower since his years at Wolfson. In 1993, he rowed in the crew on the Olympias, the reproduction trireme built by Wolfson's founding President, John Morrison. Henry is currently a member of Twickenham Rowing Club. 

Henry said, “Our year in Cambridge, back in the 70s, meant a huge amount to both of us. I think I would have found my academic studies considerably harder had it not been for warm-hearted environment of the College and for the physical challenges provided by the Boat Club.”

It is due to the constant support and generosity of our alumni, friends and donors that our Boat Club continues to have such exciting developments. Wolfson College thanks Henry Rogers and his family for his contributions and this beautiful ceremony.
