Overview

You are warmly invited to join us for an entertaining evening of wine, cheese, and poetry.

Please join us in the Combination Room from 18.45 for a 19.00 start.

Call for Poems

Do you have a favourite poem?  Or a poem thats been important to you? Or a well-known poem from your country or culture that you would like to share? Then do come along!

As with our last, hugely popular and fun Poetry Night, all members of our College community – staff, students and Fellows – are welcome to read, or simply to come along and listen.

If you would like to read a poem, then it will be really helpful if you can let us know by filling in this form.

Suggestions and guidelines

  • Your poem can be old or new, funny or serious, highbrow or lowbrow – as long as it means something to you. We only ask that it’s been written by someone else. In other words, please dont read one of your own poems – but please feel free to submit them to our Open Call!

  • The poem doesn’t have to be in English. If it isn’t, then it would be great if you could give us an English translation as well. If you dont have one to hand or cant find one easily, then you could write your own. It doesnt have to be in the same form as the original (e.g. if the original is rhymed, you wouldnt have to write a rhyming translation). If you need any help with this, then just let us know on the form.

  • Your reading should last no more than two minutes. If you would like to practise reading your poem beforehand, therell be an opportunity to do that, either earlier on in the day or just before the session. Again, just make a note of this on the form and we will be in touch.

Access

This event will take place in the Combination Room on the first floor of our main building. It has step-free access with a lift and there is an accessible toilet located on the first floor of the building.
