Wolfson College invites you to an intimate drinks reception with Dutch rapper Mula Moes, featuring a conversation on rap, race, and religion.
Mula has evocative, rich, and poetic perspectives to share about these and many other topics related to growing up as a marginalised ethno-religious minority in an affluent country that maintains a largely white and secular self-conception. Cambridge and Wolfson academics have played an important role in taking hip-hop seriously as the world’s most popular music genre. Hosting Mula is the next step in this tradition.
This event follows a talk by Mula Moes at King's College Cambridge on Sunday, 5 July, 15.00-17.00.
Mula Moes
Hailing from The Hague’s Schilderswijk and mixing his Moroccan and Congolese descent, Mula has made an undeniable contribution to the formation of the Dutch hip-hop landscape.
His first album D&G (with the Wild West collective), achieved immediate cult status as one of Europe’s most prolific answer to Atlanta trap. He has achieved multiple platinum hits since and worked with some of the biggest names in European rap.
While he was already broadening his musical palette on its predecessor PRIX D’AMI, Mula has further developed his style with his fifth album Narcopop, where trap, hip hop, rock, and even jazz are fused with pop and poetic lyrics, just to make it crystal clear that street life, and its lived experiences, are also art.

This event is co-organised by WCRN and Floris Bosscher, a PhD candidate at Wolfson College. His research explores the role of religion in Dutch street culture, with a particular focus on how rappers engage with questions of faith and identity.

This event will take place in the Combination Room on the first floor of our main building. It has step-free access with a lift and there is an accessible toilet located on the first floor of the building.
