Performer

Indie-Classical composer and concert guitarist Richard Durrant shares guitar solos from the High Baroque, English Baroque and English folk Baroque as well as premiering his new release The Art of Levitation.

With thanks to Professor Brian Moore for his generous sponsorship of the annual Brian Moore Guitar Recital.

Performer

Composer and concert artist Richard Durrant is one of the leading guitar virtuosos of his generation. He attended the Royal College of Music between 1981 to 1986. Uniquely Richard performs standing up. He is a passionate supporter of music literacy.

Richard shows his concern for the natural environment by playing his annual, British Isles midsummer recital tour carrying everything on a bicycle and trailer. So far he has cycled around nine thousand miles between concerts.

Richard has performed worldwide. He is celebrated in Paraguay for his playing of the music of Agustin Barrios and his lyrical, virtuosic interpretations of Bach’s works (on Guitar, Tenor Guitar & Ukulele) have received critical acclaim. In the UK Richard has appeared live on BBC Radio 2, 3, 4 and 6 Music.

Richard’s compositions include Six Grooves for Ukulele (ukulele and orchestra), The Girl at the Airport (guitar and strings), Superluminal (on the life and work of Albert Einstein for solo tenor, chamber ensemble and electronics) and Tan y Bwlch a three movement ukulele quartet.  His guitar compositions include the solos The Sleep of a King, The Art of Levitation, Book of Spells, The Crest ,The Coombe, The Twitten & The Walrus Tree as well as There but for the Grace of God, Slow Motion Guitars & Fête du Feu for guitar ensemble.

Over the years Richard has released numerous solo albums. He writes and records in his own Sussex based studio Pluck Plank (named as an homage to Kraftwerk’s Kling Klang).
