Overview
In this workshop, participants will learn and experience the rich culture of Negro Spirituals and American Gospel Music in collaboration with the talented Wolfson College choir, under the direction of Lyn Alcantara.
Facilitator
Dr Jeffrey Allen Murdock is an internationally recognized conductor, clinician, and educator, and is currently at Wolfson as an Arkansas Visiting Fellow.
He is the Director of Choral Activities, Professor of Music, and founding director of the Arkansas Center for Black Music at the University of Arkansas. He has earned several prestigious honors, including the 2021 GRAMMY Music Educator of the Year and 2019 Most Outstanding Faculty at the University of Arkansas.
With expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, urban music education, and social justice in music, Dr Murdock has presented at major national and international conferences. He also directs choirs, performs gospel music, and collaborates with renowned Gospel artists. He holds advanced degrees in Music Education and Choral Conducting.
