This talk asks what if anything this situation tells us about anthropology as a discipline and about comparison beyond anthropology.

Anthropology is often defined as an inherently comparative discipline. And yet anthropologists have historically had some trouble defining and agreeing upon what might constitute their comparative method. This talk examines the reasons for this seeming paradox, and suggests some solutions.

In the process it asks what if anything this situation tells us about anthropology as a discipline and about comparison beyond anthropology.
