Humanities Society

In this talk I explore how opera spread beyond Europe in the early nineteenth century, in the wake of the Napoleonic wars, and argue that it is through reconstructing this history that we can best grasp the globalized reality of opera in the twenty-first century.

Refreshments from 17.45, talk begins at 18.00 and ends in time for Formal Hall reception.
