Overview
Following the success of our previous Write-A-Thons, the Library is excited to announce another all-day Write Here Write Now session in the Sir David Williams Room of the library on Saturday 23 May.
The approach, based on 'Shut Up and Write' workshops, is simple and effective. At the beginning of the session, participants introduce themselves and state their goals for the session; then, students commit to a predetermined time of working on their writing, followed by a break, then a return to another round of writing. At the end of the session, participants wrap up by checking in on how well they did working towards our goals and spend some time socializing (sharing tips, encouraging one another, sometimes commiserating) before leaving.
These sessions boost your writing productivity while transforming the act of writing from a solitary endeavour to a social one. Students who have attended have reported very positive experiences, such as one student who provided the following feedback. "One might imagine that battling with your own creative or academic wits, while a group of fellow students typed intensely around you, would be an off-putting experience. Not a bit of it. We seemed to encourage each other tacitly to get on and produce. The hours flew by. It was a temple of silent work, leavened by tea and biscuits!"
