Your first human contact on arrival at Wolfson will probably be with one of the porters. In many ways this will be the most important contact you make, as they will be able to tell you anything you want to know about anything to do with town or gown (and if they don't know, they'll know who does).
At least one porter is always on duty from 7am until 11pm, though sometimes a student porter deputises. There is then a Night Porter on duty from 11pm until 7am, who is there to deal with emergencies that may occur during the small hours and to deal with excessive noise on campus.
What the porters do:
Distribute mail
Issue room keys
Issue various keys (Tennis Court, Gym, Small TV Room, WCSA Cupboard)
Take bookings for Formal Hall
Send faxes on members' behalf
Post mail
Sell phone cards
Give change for vending machines etc.
Security
Lost Property
General advice
Everything else!!
The porters are security porters rather than luggage porters, but will help carry the bags of students with disability.
