This Sunday, 18 June, Wolfson celebrates the end of term with the Annual Garden Party in East Court, from 3pm to 5pm. In time-honoured tradition there will be wine, strawberries and ginger beer, with musical entertainment by Cambridge University Brass Band and the College Choir. The Bar in the Club Room will be open from 4pm. Do come and join us - all College members and their families are welcome.
And it doesn't end there! At 7.30pm the annual Mary Bevan Recital features violinist Stephanie Childress, winner of the 2017 CUMS Concerto Competiton. Accompanied by pianist Kumi Matsuo the programme includes works by Ysaye, Brahms and Strauss. The Recital is free for Wolfson members; £10/£5 for non-Wolfson (tickets on the door). There will be a retiring collection, split between Diabetes UK and the Wolfson College Music Scholarships Fund.
Mary Bevan was a Senior Member and a great supporter of Wolfson College; she will be remembered through The Mary Bevan Recital, which her husband, Professor Hugh Bevan, Honorary Fellow, has funded in her honour. This annual concert is performed by prize-winners of the Cambridge University Musical Society (CUMS) Concerto Competition.
Mary would have been delighted to know that the recital brings together Wolfson College, the University of Cambridge, music and young musicians. Mary found the words of Pablo Casals epitomised her love and appreciation of music:
Music gives peace to the restless and comforts the sorrowful
They who no longer know where to turn find new ways
And those who have despaired gain new confidence and love.
