Arkansas Visiting Fellow selected for 2017-18

Lyons’ recent work has centred on the epistemology of perception and related issues in the philosophy of mind. While at Wolfson, he will be working out a detailed theory about the nature of mental representation - in particular, conceptual representation and its connections to perception. This research draws on recent work in neuroscience, cognitive psychology and philosophy.

The Arkansas Visiting Fellowship program gives faculty the opportunity to join the vibrant academic community at Wolfson College, at the University of Cambridge. Visiting Researchers are typically engaged in teaching and/or research at the University or in a recognised research establishment while in Cambridge. Visiting Fellowships of Wolfson are awarded on a competitive basis to academics who are not normally residents in Cambridge. 

The Arkansas Visiting Fellowship program between Wolfson College and Fulbright started back in 1988 with the first holder being Professor George Blyholder (deceased 2013), whose subject was Chemistry. Over the years topics have covered a whole spectrum of research from the arts to the sciences. Our current Arkansas Visiting Fellow is Dr Er-Gene Kahng (2016-17), who is researching historical performance practice, focusing on Handel’s violin sonatas. While at Wolfson she has joined in with College musical activities, playing violin at the Lent Term Concert celebrating 500 years of Lutheran Music. She has also involved herself with King’s Junior Voices (an outreach programme developed by Wolfson’s Director of Music Lyn Alcántara) supporting them at a recent concert.
