Wolfson Fellow and Director of Studies in English, Dr Michael Hrebeniak, will speak at the launch event of the Magdalene Festival of the Image this Thursday (20 October) as part of panel discussing how art works have influenced the writing of poetry.

Dr Hrebeniak, a specialist in American literature, will consider the relationship between the work of poet William Carlos Williams and Precisionist artist Charles Demuth, with particular reference to The Figure Five in Gold. Other panelists include Dr Michael Hurley speaking on Yeat's Leda and the Swan, art historian Duncan Robinson on W.H. Auden and award-winning poet Pascale Petit on work by Chinese exiled poet Yang Lian and dissident Chinese artist Ai Weiwei.

The event, co-hosted by the Cambridge Festival of Ideas, takes place in the Sir Humphrey Cripps Theatre, Cripps Court, Magdalene College, starting at 5.00pm. Entry is free, but please book a place by emailing litfest@magd.cam.ac.uk
