Wolfson Senior Member Dr Shailendra Vyakarnam has won a high-profile award following his work to improve entrepreneurial education in Asia.
Dr Vyakarnam was given the prize at the Asia?s Best B-School Awards 2011 for helping to shape the destinies of future creators in Asia. The Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL) at the University of Cambridge, who was made a Wolfson Senior Member in April 2008, has forged warm relations with companies in Malaysia and Singapore, such as Warisan Global, as well as Government departments, in order to offer programmes to students, researchers, educators and aspiring workers in the region. This has helped to develop the participants? entrepreneurial ambitions and create an established network for the delivery of practical business training.
?Our vision has been clear from the start ? to spread the spirit of enterprise ? not only in Cambridge or even the UK but beyond to the wider world,? Dr Vyakarnam said. ?We've exploited the knowledge insight and experience of seasoned entrepreneurs and practitioners rather than academics. To that extent we have established networks which embed us within entrepreneurial ecosystems and allow the delivery of practical training.?
Recently, Dr Vyakarnam and his team at CfEL also helped launch the Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship, a part-time course taught largely online to enable students worldwide to achieve a high-quality academic qualification from Cambridge.
