Honorary Fellow to chair key IMF committee

Wolfson Honorary Fellow, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, has been announced as the new chair of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Mr Tharman, who since December 2007 has been Finance Minister of Singapore, read for an MPhil in Economics at Wolfson in the 1980s, and was made an Honorary Fellow in 2006. His appointment to the IMFC marks the first time an Asian has held the post. Previous incumbents include former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Mr Gordon Brown, and most recently, Dr Youssef Boutros-Ghali, Egypt's Minister of Finance until February 2011. More...
