Sir David Williams Room

SDWR study spaces

The Sir David Williams Room (SDWR) is a study space on the ground floor of the Library named in honour of the College's former President, the late Sir David Williams (Wolfson President, 1980-1993).

It is fitted out with 18 individual study spaces (a mixture of carrels and large flat desks, purchased following a generous donation), and is particularly popular with students working on long writing projects.

The room is open 24 hours a day throughout the year to all College Members with an active College Card (entry is by swipecard). You are welcome to use the open storage units in the centre of the room to store books, papers, etc. on a temporary basis (at your own risk), but please limit yourself to one cubby hole to ensure there are enough to go round.

Laptops are welcome, and wi-fi via Lapwing and Eduroam is available.

Some student views on the SDWR:

"I believe that the SDWR has helped to foster a real sense of community and conviviality amongst the many PhD and MPhil researchers in the humanities, social sciences and other disciplines, who have come to rely on the room as a haven for writing-up, revising and completing their projects."

"I feel I speak for all of the room's varied, ever-changing and cooperative clientele when I say that it has proved a very welcome addition to college life, and helped energise Wolfson's research culture."
